AQUA MARINA
Junior swimmer from the North Norfolk Vikings Swimming Club descended on the Marina Centre in Great Yarmouth when their small team built upon their success after recently winning the King Charles III Coronation Trophy at Dereham.
Vikings got off to the perfect start by winning triple golds in the first event in respective age groups. Ivy Bird (1:50.02) Samuel Reynolds-Gotts(1:42.67) and Jeanie Clarke (1:34.30) all had to swim all four strokes over 100m. As a bonus James Laws (1:57.44) and Amelie Cutting (1:47.31) took silvers in the same events and all five swimmers scored personal best times.
Amelie, aged 11, went on to win a hat trick of golds, the 100m backstroke in 1:45.55, 100m butterfly 2:06.51 and the 50 m breaststroke in1:02.52. There was more gold medal success for 10 year old Sam. He went 48.63 for 50m backstroke and before he left Sam was on the podium with two more silvers. It was a similar outcome for Ivy, aged 9, adding her second gold for the 50m breatstroke in 56.98 and then a bronze for 50m freestyle on 45.87.
Rokas Kriksciunas won no fewer than six medals. However, he had to wait until the last event before he struck gold in the 50m freestyle when he went 36.90, two seconds clear and in a personal best time. This after the 12 year old had won four silvers and a bronze. In the 50m breaststroke he was just thwarted out of the gold by 0.53 seconds.
Darcie Lee who is just returning from Injury was just outside the medals in 1:38.36 for the 100m freestyle and in the 50m the 13 year old gained a fifth in 45.25. However 11 year old Jeanie did medal in the 100, taking her second medal of the afternoon; a silver in 1.25.84.
New comer, Maia Van Kuijk made her gala debut and swam four races. The 8 year old did not medal but recorded a personal best time on all her events notably the 50 m butterfly when she improved by a considerable margin!
