Our lead coach Sam led by example as he competed in the English National Masters Competition in Sheffield . In the 800m freestyle, Sam was up against a strong field of seven competitors over 32 lengths of the pool. Dan John of Reading was the run away winner when he finished in 8:46.53 but Sam came in third for the bronze medal in 9:48.31. Sam had earlier come sixth in the 400m in 4:38.74
In complete contrast, Spike Buchan swam the shorter distances of 50m and 100m backstroke. After finishing fifth in the 100m with !:13.48 he turned to the 50m and after a close finish, he went 32.82 to earn Viking’s first bronze of the competition However, although he did not medal, Spike finished thirteenth in the 100m free in an impressive time of 1:00.92. Club Chairperson Sarah also represented the club in the 1,500m and finished in eighth spot with 24:44.09 after 60 hard lengths of the pool
