THREE TIMES AS MANY

At the Norfolk County Championships, held at the UEA over three week-ends,Isaac and Noah Buchan made the most of their opportunities at the first week-end of the Norfolk and Suffolk County Championship long distance events held simultaneously at the UEA Sports Park

Isaac swam the Suffolk 1,500m freestyle by swimming thirty lengths of the 50m pool and became Suffolk County Champion as he is currently on loan from North Norfolk Vikings to St Felix School, in Southwold. In the race, there was no doubt about the winner as he led the race from the gun, winning by a fifty second margin. If that was not enough his winning time of 19:55.36 has qualified him for the next stage when he will compete in four more events at the Regional Championships later in the year There was also a silver medal for Isaac in the 800m freestyle with a creditable 10:19.32.

Meanwhile his younger brother Noah did win his respective 800m in what was a very exciting head to head race with James O’Toole of the City of Norwich Club. Spectators had to wait until the last 50m before there was any sign of a leader. The Viking just edged ahead and held on winning in a Regional Qualifying Time of 11:32.92 from 11.36.05 recorded by James in the Norfolk race.

“I planned my attack when I went into the last turn. Then I felt like I couldn’t breathe and I could no longer see James, but I knew I just had to keep going!” remarked the determined new Norfolk County Champion after the race

However, the positions were reversed in the 1,500m when James won in 22:43.12 giving Noah the silver in 24:19.28 respectively.

On this occasion it was  the 400m  Individual Medley and neither  faltered as they both swam well. At the touch it was Noah who had a slender, one second advantage to take his third gold of the championships  in 6:43.88 in a very exciting and close finish.
